Bac Son is a rural district of Lạng Sơn Province in the Northeast region of Vietnam and it is situated 160km northeast of Hanoi.
One of the interesting aspects about this valley is its incredibly high mountains which are about 500-1200 meters high. These mountains, together with the valley’s paddy fields, create a great scenic landscape that you can only see its best after climbing to the peak of a mountain which is located just a few minutes from the town.
The valley’s pathways leads you to the paddy fields where you’ll get a chance to see the beautiful river that runs crossing the rice fields. Besides the valley itself, Bac Son district’s villages possess a beauty of their own.
The district is inhabited by the Tay ethnic people and their traditional stilt houses. Some of the overnight bac son tours will be the best for both the scenery and learning the local life of the hill tribe.
If you wish to see the entire view of the valley, you would need to hike up to the telephone station which was built on the top of a high mountain. From here, you are absolutely amazed by the stunning 360-degree scenery of mountains, villages, rivers and farms. It can be tiring to climb the mountains, but the effort is very much worth it.
Bac Son Valley Climate & When to go?
From Beginning of December to the end of March, Bac Son Valley’s ground is not very green because this is not the rice season. Here and there, the locals grow some vegetable for their daily consume. You are still able to witness the locals’ rural activities somewhere. Because of the weather, the mountains are green all year around. During this periord, it is still good for trekking/hiking activities in the region. However, some days in this periord, it is rather misty with drizzling
From April to November, The rice carpets the valley and landscape becomes so green and beautiful, it looks really stunning from a mountain’s summit. There are two crops of rice during these months. This is why the valley is known as the green paradise, except for July and November as these are the times when the rice getting ripe and the color is turning yellow, ready for the harvests. July and November are the favorite months for photographers to come and hunt for beautiful pictures. October and November are voted to be the best time to come for both weather and scenery.
The climate here is mild and generally warm and temperate. At an average temperature of 26.9 °C, July is the hottest month of the year. January is the coldest month, with temperatures averaging 13.4 °C.
Bac Son Valley is a place with significant rainfall. Even in the driest month there is a lot of rain. The average annual temperature is 21.4 °C. The average annual rainfall is 1538 mm.
Precipitation is the lowest in January, with an average of 17 mm. Most of the precipitation here falls in August, averaging 314 mm.

In the morning:
We depart from Hanoi at 7:30 AM. The morning drive takes us nearly 4 hours, through the fertile Red River Delta and onward into the hilly area after Thai Nguyen City. The scenery along the way is beautiful with rice and other cereal fields, dotted with stilt-house villages. There will be some stops on the way for taking photographs. Arrive at Quynh Son village by noon. A Vietnam lunch will be severed at a local stilt house. This is not only a chance to enjoy the local food but also a good time to interact with the host family.
In the afternoon:
After lunch and a short rest, we will take a short stroll around the village to learn the daily life of the Tay ethnic minority. Get picked up by car on the way and transferred to the foot of a mountain where the cell phone tower situated atop. Thence, we start climbing up to the summit for admiring the dramatic panorama of the valley.
Getting back down to the foot of the mountain where your private transport is waiting for you. Get on the vehicle and drive back to Hanoi. Arrive at your hotel in Hanoi about 7:15 PM.
