Bac Son is a rural district of Lạng Sơn Province in the Northeast region of Vietnam and it is situated 160km northeast of Hanoi.

One of the interesting aspects about this valley is its incredibly high mountains which are about 500-1200 meters high. These mountains, together with the valley’s paddy fields, create a great scenic landscape that you can only see its best after climbing to the peak of a mountain which is located just a few minutes from the town.

The valley’s pathways leads you to the paddy fields where you’ll get a chance to see the beautiful river that runs crossing the rice fields. Besides the valley itself, Bac Son district’s villages possess a beauty of their own.

The district is inhabited by the Tay ethnic people and their traditional stilt houses. Some of the overnight bac son tours will be the best for both the scenery and learning the local life of the hill tribe.

If you wish to see the entire view of the valley, you would need to hike up to the telephone station which was built on the top of a high mountain. From here, you are absolutely amazed by the stunning 360-degree scenery of mountains, villages, rivers and farms. It can be tiring to climb the mountains, but the effort is very much worth it.

 Bac Son Valley Climate & When to go?

From Beginning of December to the end of March, Bac Son Valley’s ground is not very green because this is not the rice season. Here and there, the locals grow some vegetable for their daily consume. You are still able to witness the locals’ rural activities somewhere. Because of the weather, the mountains are green all year around. During this periord, it is still good for trekking/hiking activities in the region. However, some days in this periord, it is rather misty with drizzling

From April to November, The rice carpets the valley and landscape becomes so green and beautiful, it looks really stunning from a mountain’s summit. There are two crops of rice during these months. This is why the valley is known as the green paradise, except for July and November as these are the times when the rice getting ripe and the color is turning yellow, ready for the harvests. July and November are the favorite months for photographers to come and hunt for beautiful pictures. October and November are voted to be the best time to come for both weather and scenery.

The climate here is mild and generally warm and temperate. At an average temperature of 26.9 °C, July is the hottest month of the year. January is the coldest month, with temperatures averaging 13.4 °C.

Bac Son Valley is a place with significant rainfall. Even in the driest month there is a lot of rain. The average annual temperature is 21.4 °C. The average annual rainfall is 1538 mm.

Precipitation is the lowest in January, with an average of 17 mm. Most of the precipitation here falls in August, averaging 314 mm.

Depart from your hotel in Hanoi at 8.00 AM, we will get over the Red River and drive through the fertile countryside to the hilly land of Lang Son province. Along the way, you will be able to view beautiful rural scenery with stops for taking photographs when you wish. Arrive at Quynh Son village in Bac Son Valley around noon, have a Vietnamese lunch at a local house of a Tay ethnic minority family.

In the afternoon, take a easy walk around the village to learn about the daily life of the locals and see the traditional stilt houses. If the weather is nice enough for you, end the walk at the foot of the cell-phone-tower mountain for a hike uphill to the summit where you can admire the wonderful 360-degree panorama over the valley. Spend time to take photographs of the sunset and rice fields. After that, get downhill and back to the host family for rest, dinner and overnight at the homestay.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner


After your breakfast at the house, get transferred to a traditional tile factory nearby. Everything is by hand and the factory is also the main one which is providing the tiles for most of the stilt houses in region. Thence, drive up the road to a small valley where you will embark on a trekking tour. The trek starts easily on a little concrete path which leads you through a peaceful stilt house village and green farms. After a while, you will reach the end of the valley and start hiking uphill into the forest. The scenery is stunning from the top of the trek, have a short break for taking photographs and admire the landscape. Say good-bye to the first valley and hello to the second valley which is a bit bigger. The downhill trek in reasonable following the buffalo path. Get back on the bottom of the valley and gently walk back to the family for refreshing and lunch. Your vehicle is ready to pick you up from the trek whenever you need and accessible. In the afternoon, drive back to Hanoi. Arrive at your hotel in between 5.30 and 6.00 PM. End of the service.
