Day 1: Hanoi to Lao Cai and Muong Hum – Hiking three hours in the afternoon (-; L; D)
It is the departure day of Hiking North Vietnam 4 Days! Picked up from 6.30, board the coach and leave the Center of Hanoi at 7.00 am. The road trip, along the new highway, takes only 5 hours to arrive to Lao Cai plus two breaks along the way. Meet local tour guide upon arriving in Lao Cai and have lunch in a local restaurant. Then transfer by van 42 km to Muong Hum Valley in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province. Check in home-stay and freshen up.
Leave home-stay at 3.00 pm for 3 hours walking to explore Ban Pho Village of the Red Zao. Follow the narrow tarmac from home-stay, cross Nam Ho River and walk uphill for about 40 minutes, enjoy beautiful scenery of lush forest, impressive rice field…, then turn to a dirt path to for an hour to get across the valley to Ban Pho Village of the Red Zao Peoples. Explore this village before walking along a narrow dirt trail to Sin Cho Village which is beautifully set near the bottom of the valley. Pay visit to some local homes of the Blue Hmong before getting down to Nam Ho River and back to home-stay at 6.00 pm. Dinner served at about 7.00 with local dishes.
Day 2: Full day Hiking to explore the fascinating Den Sang Valley – Visit Hmong Villages (B; L; D)
Breakfast and depart at 9.00 am. Follow the large path from our base for 20 minutes up steep hill side of Den Thang Mountain, then turn to a large earthen path running on high elevation of the mountain side for about 7 km, getting through farm land and some small hamlets of the Hmong peoples. This section offers fascinating panorama of the Nam Ho Valley. Leave the large path and follow a narrow dirt track for 15 minutes to come down to the dam at the bottom of the valley, enjoy picnic lunch on the rocks by the stream.
Cross Nam Ho Stream and continue trekking, after lunch, along the narrow dirt track for an hour gradually up steep hill side, through terraced paddies and lush tea farms scattering on high side of Khu Chu Phin Mountain. Then the trail winds up and down between the forest and farmed land for 2 hours before arriving to Lang Moi Village, home to about 40 Hmong families, beautifully set among very impressive terraced fields of the Nam Pen Valley, walk through the village, meet hospitable Hmong before checking in home-stay at about 5.00 pm. Freshen up, dinner with local dishes and stay overnight in a house of a Hmong family.
Day 3: Full day hiking to explore Nam Pen Valley – Visit Red Zao and Hmong Villages – Home-stay (B; L; D)
It is the third day of the Hiking North Vietnam 4 Days. Breakfast and leave home-stay at 9.00 am. Trek along the dirt trail, sneaking through the stunning Nam Pen Valley, for an hour to Ki Quan San Village of the White Hmong. Explore this village, meet the Hmong doing everyday works at home and on the fields. leave Ki Quan San and follow a narrow paved path to Nam Pen Village hidden itself at the food of Nhiu Co San Mountain. Pay visit to this isolated village before having lunch break.
Continue trekking for an hour after lunch along the narrow dirt trail which as thin as a string winding up steep mountain, getting through a piece of lush natural forest and arriving to a small hamlet of the Red Zao which is set on the top of the high mountain and overlooking down Nam Pen Valley. Enjoy marvelous landscapes from here before trekking downhill about two hours to get through the well organized village of the Red Zao named Ki Quan San Tren. Pay visit to local homes, meet the Red Zao peoples for learning about their strong and unique culture and way of live. Arriving to home-stay located near the village school at about 5.00 pm, check in, freshen up and free walk to enjoy sunset. Dinner with home-cooked food served at 7.30 pm. Home stay overnight in house of the Red Zao.
Day 4: Six hours hiking to explore Pieng Lao Valley – Visit Red Zao, Hmong and Zay Villages – Back to Hanoi (B; L; -)
It is the last day of Trekking North Vietnam 4 Days. Leave home-stay at 8.30 am and hiking about 2 hours along a dirt trail which winds its way up and down the mountain, getting through lush forest to a small hamlet of the White Hmong. Pay visiting to this charming village and continue hiking downhill along a large path for an hour among the impressive terraced fields of Pieng Lao Valley, home to the Zay ethnic peoples, visit some house of the Zay, meet Zay peoples doing their everyday works.
Lunch served near the stream before crossing to other bank and continue hiking uphill to Ta Le Village of the Red Zao, walking to explore this village, meeting peoples for socializing. Leave Ta Le and move briefly for nearly an hour to Sin Chai Village of the Ha Nhi ethnic whose population is only 12,489 individuals in Vietnam. Visit houses and meet the Ha Nhi peoples in this small and quiet village.
Leave Sin Chai in mid afternoon, Picked up by van at about 3.00 pm for 45 km road transfer to Lao Cai. Take shower at our base in Lao Cai before boarding the coach at 5.15 pm for Hanoi. Dinner at own budget along the way at rest-stop. Arrive in Hanoi at 10.00 pm near the Old Quarter, trip ends..
