Trekking North Vietnam Four Days from Hanoi – Tour details
Trekking North Vietnam departs every evening from Hanoi by train. Picked up at 8.30 pm for short transfer to Hanoi railways station, board the train and depart at 9.50 pm for Lao Cai City. Sleep in comfortable four-soft bed cabin with A/C, tourist class.
- Return train ticket Hanoi – Lao Cai – Hanoi. In four-soft-bed cabin with A/C.
- Private transfer by car or van Lao Cai Station – Muong Hum – Lao Cai.

Day 1: Lao Cai – Muong Hum – Trekking to explore Nam Ho Valley (- ; L; D)
Arriving in Lao Cai City early in the morning at about 6,00. Meet local tour guide and drive, have a cup of tea or coffee before transfer by road 42 km to our base in Muong Hum. Freshen up, breakfast and enjoy a short rest for recovering after long journey.
Start trekking from our base at 10.00 am. Follow the large path from our base for 20 minutes up steep hill side of Den Thang Mountain, then turn to a large earthen path running on high elevation of the mountain side for about 7 km, getting through farm land and some small hamlets of the Hmong peoples. This section offers fascinating panorama of the Nam Ho Valley. Leave the large path and follow a narrow dirt track for 15 minutes to come down to the dam at the bottom of the valley, enjoy picnic lunch on the rocks by the stream.
Cross Nam Ho Stream and continue trekking, after lunch, along the narrow dirt track for an hour gradually up steep hill side, through terraced paddies and lush tea farms scattering on high side of Khu Chu Phin Mountain. Then the trail winds up and down between the forest and farmed land for 2 hours before arriving to Lang Moi Village, home to about 40 Hmong families, beautifully set among very impressive terraced fields of the Nam Pen Valley, walk through the village, meet hospitable Hmong before checking in home-stay at about 5.00 pm. Freshen up, dinner with local dishes and stay overnight in a house of a Hmong family.
Day 2: Full day trekking to explore Nam Pen Valley – Meet the Hmong, Red Zao tribal peoples (B ; L; D)
It is second day of the Trekking North Vietnam 4 Days. Breakfast and leave home-stay at 9.00 am. Trek along the dirt trail, sneaking through the stunning Nam Pen Valley, for an hour to Ki Quan San Village of the White Hmong. Explore this village, meet the Hmong doing everyday works at home and on the fields. leave Ki Quan San and follow a narrow paved path to Nam Pen Village hidden itself at the food of Nhiu Co San Mountain. Pay visit to this isolated village before having lunch break.
Continue trekking for an hour after lunch along the narrow dirt trail which as thin as a string winding up steep mountain, getting through a piece of lush natural forest and arriving to a small hamlet of the Red Zao which is set on the top of the high mountain and overlooking down Nam Pen Valley. Enjoy marvelous landscapes from here before trekking downhill for more than 2 hours to get through the well organized village of the Red Zao named Ki Quan San Tren. Pay visit to local homes, meet the Red Zao peoples for learning about their strong and unique culture and way of live. Check in home-stay at about 5.00 pm and free walk for the rest of the day to enjoy sunset. Dinner served at about 7.00 pm with local dishes. Stay overnight in wooden house of a Red Zao family.
Day 3: Full day trekking to explore Pieng Lao and Nam Pung Valleys (B ; L; D)
It is the third day of the Trekking North Vietnam 4 Days. Breakfast and say goodbye to our host at 8.30 am. Trekking from home-stay along large village path for nearly three hours around the prosperous Pieng Lao Valley, famous for its impressive terraced rice fields and is home to the Day ethnic peoples who live in some villages beautifully set along the Ta Loi Stream. Then follow the earthen path running along the stream to pass through the suspension bridge to Phin Pao Village of the Zao people. Explore this village before lunch break in a local home.
Trekking, after lunch, along narrow dirt track which sneak among the terraced fields, cross the Ta Le Stream for an hour before winding uphill through Ta Le Village of the Red Zao. Trekking through this large village, pay visit to local home before challenging uphill through bamboo forest for nearly two hours to Nam Pung Village of the Red Zao hiding itself between two high mountains. Check in home-stay at about 5.30 pm, freshen up and free to walk around the reservoir to enjoy sunset. Dinner served at about 7.00 pm and home stay overnight in the house of a Red Zao family.
Day 4: Five hours trekking to explore remote villages – Road transfer to Lao Cai (B ; L; -)
It is the last day of Trekking North Vietnam 4 Days. Leave home-stay at 8.30 am, trek along the large village path connecting Nam Pung and Phin Ho, two villages of the Red Zao. Then follow the narrow trail winding mostly up and down steep mountain side, through bamboo plantation and terraced fields for 2 hours to the village of Ha Nhi ethnic peoples. Explore this remote and isolated village of the Ha Nhi whose population is only 12,489 individual and famous for their unique architecture of clay-wall houses. Lunch break in this village.
Trekking, after lunch, for 1.5 hour through lush rain forest and arrive to Ta Giang Phinh Valley, from here follow large village path 30 minutes to the motor way. Picked up by van at about 2.30 pm for 45 km road transfer to Lao Cai. Have day used room for taking shower, have dinner on own budget before taking the night train back to Hanoi. Trip ends upon arrival to Hanoi station, take taxi on your own to hotel..
